Fruits of Love, Roots of Trees, Honey from those lovely Bees
What is a ‘sense of belonging’ according to Christianity a sense of belonging is to the ‘family of god’. According to Sister Sledge, sister love within the family is worth singing about. I have spent my whole life in transition, many places, many faces, ever since I could tie up my own laces. I don’t know home, I have spent a lot of time alone.
Does belonging happen to you or do you find it within yourself in the world you decide to be included in?
I asked Chat GPT today ‘what is the meaning of belonging’:
‘”Belonging” is one of those deep, layered words that can mean something a little different depending on where your heart is when you say it.
At its core, belonging is the feeling that you fit. That you’re seen, accepted, and valued—not for what you do, but for who you are. It’s the opposite of loneliness, the antidote to alienation. It’s that quiet exhale when you walk into a room and don’t feel the need to shrink yourself, explain yourself, or earn your place.
It’s the warmth of being part of something—a family, a friendship, a community, even a place—that wants you there. Where your presence adds something. Where you don’t have to ask permission to exist.
Belonging can also be internal: a coming home to yourself. A moment where you’re at ease in your own skin, even if no one else is around. It’s knowing you’re not broken, even if you’re still healing.
I think that sums up the feeling very well and perhaps why I may have never really felt a sense of belonging anywhere, and with anyone.
However, I am gradually moving into the belonging to me era, and I am elated, recently I have found myself laughing out loud and making myself laugh from events of the day. I enjoying my own company, it’s not haunting or daunting to be alone with those thoughts, of shame, I wasn’t to blame. I no longer question the fake, I allow them to pass by and don’t say HI.
REM ‘Belonging’ comes in my mind, however I prefer ‘Shiny Happy People’ laughing these days!
My interpretation is that you can create a belonging if the family unit is distant for what ever reason, grieve the loss, class yourself as lucky to be a survivor and gather yourself.
Go try new things and explore the world, buy a plane, train or coach ticket and just go, throwing yourself in to the world completely unprepared is one of the greatest gifts you will ever buy yourself. It will make you seek out what’s important to you and you’ll learn so much about yourself and your triggers, how you respond to situations and how you soothe yourself. ‘Play Adventure of a Lifetime’–We are Diamonds Taking Shape– Cold Play.
